LASG POSTPONES PLANNED REPAIR WORKS ON THIRD MAINLAND BRIDGE
The Third Mainland Bridge’s failed parts were to have planned palliative works, but those have been postponed, according to the Lagos State Government.
The repairs were slated to take place on September 17 and 24, two consecutive Sundays, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, the postponement is “due to the heavy downpour experienced in all parts of the metropolis today.”
He said that the rain had an impact on the preliminary planning for the Lagos State Public Works Corporation’s anticipated palliative work on the bridge’s asphalt pavement.
On Friday, the Lagos State Government ordered palliative repairs to be made to failing parts of the Third Mainland Bridge by its Public Works Corporation and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.
However, the Transport Commissioner has promised that a later time—which will depend on weather conditions—will be appropriately announced for the palliative works, advising drivers to use the bridge as usual while adhering to safety precautions.
