BAYELSA POLLS: INEC YET TO COMMENCE COLLATION OF RESULTS FROM REMAINING TWO LGAs
The results of the Bayelsa State gubernatorial election from the final two local government districts, Brass and Southern Ijaw, have not yet been collated by the state as of Monday.
The Prof. Mahmood Yakubu Media Centre INEC state office in Yenagoa is the location of the State Collation Centre, where the exercise is expected to take place.
The commission decided to move the Sunday 7 p.m. results collation from Brass and Southern Ijaw to this Monday 12 p.m.
In the Bayelsa State governorship election, Prof. Kuta Farouq, the INEC State Returning Officer, oversaw the collation of results from six local governments as of Sunday: Yenagoa, Ogbia, Nembe, Ekeremor, Sagbama, and Kolokuma/Opokuma.
With 137,909 votes from five of the six local governments, Douye Diri, the PDP’s candidate for governor, was leading the field. Timipre Sylva, the APC’s major opponent, received 703,503 votes, winning only Nembe Local Government Area.
The collation will resume at midday on Monday, according to a statement made at 7:35 p.m. on Sunday by Mr. Wilfred Ifogah, Head of the Department of Voter Education and Publicity at the INEC state headquarters in Yenagoa.
However, the exercise was scheduled to resume at 12:15 p.m., and INEC had not yet reached the centre.
