
BREAKING: DIRI WINS SOUTHERN IJAW LGA IN BAYELSA GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION
As the results of the Bayelsa governorship election continued to be collated on Monday afternoon, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area was declared the winner by Governor Douye Diri.
In Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa, state returning officer Prof. Faruq Kuta started collation at about 2:20 pm, while the collation centre took a break at 1:00 pm.
With 24,685 votes, Diri, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, defeated All Progressives Congress (APC) opponent Timipre Sylva, who received 18,174 votes.
With 119 votes, the Labour Party (LP) secured the third position among the 50,153 registered voters.
