ACCIDENT: TWO DEAD AS TRUCK CRUSHES OKADA PLYING ‘ONE WAY’ IN LAGOS
A truck on the Lagos-Badagry Motorway smashed a motorbike travelling in one direction near the Barracks Bus Stop towards Iyana-Iba, resulting in the deaths of two people.
This was revealed in a statement released on Saturday by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq.
He added that the remains were found by LASTMA agents under an abandoned long ‘Man-Diesel’ truck near the Barracks Bus Stop on the Lagos-Badagry Motorway in Lagos.
“While these two motorcycle passengers died instantly, the rider later died at a hospital around Satellites Town,” the statement read.
“While the truck driver ran away after the accident, policemen from Onireke Police Division took away the recovered two bodies.”
According to Taofiq, initial inquiries showed that a truck driver lost control of his vehicle at high speed due to a burst tyre on the back and collided with a motorcycle travelling in one direction along the Lagos-Badagry Motorway, passing Barracks Bus Stop and heading towards Iyana-Iba.
The recovery operations were spearheaded by Ogunremi Olanrewaju, LASTMA Commander, Area D, and his crew. They promptly removed the truck and motorcycle from the road to allow for unimpeded, free-flowing traffic around the motorway.
While cautioning truck drivers to never exceed the posted speed limit, LASTMA General Manager Bakare-Oki Olalekan also urged motorcycle riders to cease travelling on any one-way roads, including those that are limited throughout the state.
