EDUCATION: LASTVEB ORGANISES THREE-DAY TRAINING FOR INSTRUCTORS

On Monday, the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB) kicked off a three-day training on Outcome-Based Education for 50 instructors from five Government Technical Colleges at the Government Technical College, Agidingbi, Ikeja, the training was designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of the instructors, improve instructional methodologies and align teaching practices with the principles of Outcome-Based Education.

 

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of LASTVEB, Ms. Moronke Azeez emphasised the importance of equipping instructors with modern teaching techniques to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving workforce.

 

Azeez, represented by Mr. Adeniran Ogunsiji, Director of Education Management and Information Systems, stated the training on Outcome-Based Education underscores the College’s commitment to providing quality, technical and vocational education in Lagos State.

 

She averred that the major objective of the training is to equip instructors with a solid understanding of Outcome-Based Education principles. foster the development of learner-centric instructional strategies, enhance assessment methods to align with learning outcomes, promote effective collaboration and resource-sharing among instructors, and establish a foundation for continuous improvement in teaching practices.

 

The intensive training programme, according to her, would feature interactive workshops, lectures, and hands-on sessions designed to equip the instructors with the necessary tools and methodologies to integrate Outcome-Based Education into their teaching practices effectively.

 

It will also require participants to discuss curriculum development, assessment strategies, and the practical application of Outcome-Based Education principles to technical and vocational education.

 

Dr. Idowu Aneyo, one of the facilitators and a lecturer at the University of Lagos, Akoka, noted that the implementation of Outcome-Based Training strategies by participants in their various colleges is expected to have a profound impact on students by enhancing the learning experience and ensuring that students are actively engaged in the learning process, leading to a more meaningful educational experience and focused assessment.

 

He added that it will also lead to mastery of competencies, real-world assessment and holistic development.

 

The Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Training for Government Technical College Instructors was a collaborative effort between LASTVEB (Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board) and WAVE (West Africa through Vocational Education).

 

It is a yearly capacity-building exercise to broaden the knowledge of the instructors to better prepare students for the demands of the industry which reflects LASTVEB’s ongoing effort to enhance the professional development of instructors and improve the quality of technical and vocational education in Lagos State.
