INEC READY FOR BAUCHI RE-RUN ELECTION — REC
The Independent National Electoral Commission says it has concluded arrangements to conduct re-run elections in four state assembly constituencies in Bauchi State.
This was said in an interview on Sunday in Bauchi, by the state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Mohammed Nura.
“The Commission is conducting re-run elections on the 2023 general election, as directed by Election Petition Appeal Tribunals.
“Some 42 PUs across the four constituencies are affected by the court order.
“The elections are scheduled to take place simultaneously in all affected constituencies on February 3,” he said.
Nura listed the constituencies to include Bauchi Central, Zungur/Galambi, Madara/Chinade, and Ningi 1.
He added that the election would be conducted in 10 polling units in Bauchi Central, 12 polling units in Zungur/Galambi, 10 polling units in Madara/Chinade, and 10 polling units in Ningi Central.
While waiting for the delivery of the sensitive items, the REC stated that the commission had made an inventory of non-sensitive materials.
Nura reports that the commission will meet with the Inter Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) the next week and begin recruiting ad hoc staff.
In order to ensure a smooth election process, he asked political parties and candidates to work with the commission and abide by the electoral regulations.
