LASG SET TO BEGIN REMOVAL OF ILLEGAL BUILDING EXTENSION, ATTACHMENTS IN TWO WEEKS
In two weeks, the Lagos State Government plans to start removing unlawful construction attachments and converting the entire state.
Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, made this revelation on Wednesday in Alausa.
In a statement signed by Mukaila Sanusi, Deputy Director, Public Affairs, the commissioner expressed disapproval of the immoral practices of transforming residential properties into commercial ones without permission and unnecessarily adding structures to them, stating that sanity and order should be restored throughout the state.
He insisted that the state will not put up with the rampant lawlessness seen in business districts like Lagos Island, Ikeja, and Iyana-Ipaja, where stores are being forcibly expanded with steel exterior staircases and sheds in an attempt to draw in customers.
He gave owners of unlawful extensions a two-week deadline to remove them; if they didn’t, the state government would begin demolishing such constructions statewide on February 15th, beginning on Lagos Island.
In the same spirit, the Commissioner requested that anyone who built structures inside the right of way of pipelines, powerlines, or canals get ready for a significant enforcement operation by the ministry in two weeks.
He emphasised that every effort would be made by the government to guarantee a built environment that is both livable and sustainable.
