SKILL ACQUISITION: BECOME SUPPORT AGENTS OF YOUR SPOUSES - LASG TELLS MILITARY OFFICERS’ WIVES

The Lagos State Government has mandated that women military officers abstain from all types of inactivity and work towards developing productive skills in order to assist their husbands and families in becoming financially stable.

During the conclusion of a four-week short-term programmeme called Skills Acquisition and Empowerment for Wives of Military Officers’ Wives and the Police, which took place at Bonny Camp Victoria Island in Lagos, Hon. Cecilia Bolaji Dada said that the programmeme’s goal is social inclusion and that it aligns with Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State’s THEMES Plus Agenda.

Dada emphasised the importance of having ready-to-use skills to meet diverse economic demands and challenges. The Ministry has conducted numerous trainings for various social groups in the state, such as those based on the Islamic and Christian faiths, wives of military officers, the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials, people with disabilities, retiring public servants, individuals living with HIV/AIDS, people living with sickle-cell anaemia, SUBEB parents of out-of-school children, and internally displaced persons.

He acknowledged that the skills acquisition programme often takes place concurrently in five locations, absorbing a total of 250 trainees at each location. He congratulated the participants for exhibiting exceptional fortitude, tenacity, and dedication in the pursuit of self-sufficiency.

In her keynote address, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, First Lady of Lagos State, stated that the four-week short-term programme is a testament to the present administration’s commitment towards human capital development and empowerment of Lagosians, especially women.

The First Lady, who was represented by the Wife of the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mrs. Funmi Omotoso, averred that investing in skills provides opportunities for economic independence and contributes not only to the well-being of their families but also to the broader goal of reducing crime and poverty in society.

Dr. Sanwo-Olu commended the Wives of Military officers, Navy Officers, Nigerian Air Force and Police officers, who attended the programme, and implored them to utilise the acquired skills effectively

Speaking in a similar vein, Pharm. (Mrs.) Rahkiya M.T. Usman, wife of the Commanding Officer Division 1, who is also the Chairman of 81 Division, Nigeria Army Officers Wives Association, applauded Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State for the laudable initiative while recalling that the programmes were initiated within the Cantonment to improve the lives and source of livelihood of the women.

The highlight of the programme was the presentation of start-up packs to each of the 250 beneficiaries to improve their trade proficiencies.
