This and others were among the resolutions contained in the communique issued at the end of the Y2024 Equipment Safety Workshop with the theme “Safety Compliance in the Elevator and Vertical Equipment Industryā€, organised by the Lagos State Safety Commission in collaboration with Lifts and Vertical Transportation Association, Lagos State Chapter, held on Thursday at the Movenpick Hotel, Ikoyi.

The Director-General, Lagos Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, in his opening remarks at the event, said the workshop was aimed at enhancing safety standards and fostering compliance within the elevator and vertical transportation sector.

His words, “This workshop serves as a pivotal platform for industry professionals, regulatory bodies and stakeholders to come together, exchange knowledge and collaborate towards a safer environment for all”.

Mojola disclosed that with rapid urbanisation and technological advancement, registration of lifts, regulation and enforcement of safety standards in line with best practices in the sector cannot be compromised.

He recalled that there have been incidents of elevator breakdowns and safety breaches, thus emphasising the urgent need for a paradigm shift.

In his keynote address, the Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mr. Olugbenga Oyerinde said the workshop is important because a need for a strong occupational safety and health culture is not just a goal, but a fundamental necessity in any workplace.

Highlights of the event include the presentation of papers by different experts offering guidance on how to collectively address several issues and elevate safety standards to new heights.
