GUBER POLLS: INEC BEGINS VOTER REGISTRATION IN EDO DESPITE POSTPONEMENT CALLS
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process in Benin City, the state capital, ahead of the Edo State governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) called for the exercise to be postponed due to accusations that certain things were destroyed when a flood damaged the election umpire’s headquarters last week, but INEC began the exercise on Monday, May 27, 2024.
Annugbum Onouha, the state’s resident electoral commissioner, escorted a group of INEC representatives to many CVR locations in the capital city of Benin.
The crew started out at the Egor Local Government Area’s Idia College, where people were being attended to by responsible personnel.
The flood calamity that occurred at INEC headquarters over the weekend forced a move of the CVR’s coordinating centre to Customs Road in Benin City, which is located in Edo State’s Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area.
On June 5, 2024, the CVR exercise comes to a close.
The top candidates for the state’s next governorship election include Monday Okpebholo of the APC, Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party, and Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
