ISWAP ISSUES QUIT NOTICE TO BORNO COMMUNITIES OR FACE DEATH

The terrorists of the Islamic State-West Africa Province (ISWAP) have given the people of Kukawa LGA notice to leave their towns or face death at the hands of the terror group, barely four days after slaughtering fifteen fishermen in the Tumbun Rogo hamlet.

This was disclosed by a local who left his village for Maiduguri three hours after being threatened.

The homeowner, who asked to remain anonymous, relieving himself of his ordeal, narrated how the terrorists had assembled people from several communities in the LGA early on Thursday and threatened to kill them if they did not leave their homes by Saturday.

He claims that populations began leaving their areas as soon as they learned of the terrorists’ threat; some went to Kross Kauwa, while others moved to Monguno.

Kukawa LGA is a Lake Chad local government that is well-known for its farming, fishing, and other agricultural value chain pursuits. It is bordered by Lake Chad and is manned by Nigerian Army and Navy soldiers.

Some settlements, including Kross Kauwa, Baga, Doron-Baga, Kukawa community, and Tumbun Rogo, were resettled despite being forced to flee by the rebels during the insurgency. These communities were overseen by Professor Babagana Zulum.

Because of the socioeconomic value of the area to the terrorists, who depend on farming and fishing for their own survival and financial support, Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have continued to attack the communities even after the area’s relative peace and stability were restored.
