LAGOS OFFICE OF INFRASTRUCTURE ORGANISES THREE-DAY TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR STAFF ON BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION

The Lagos State Office of Infrastructure has organised a three-day training programme for 60 Engineers with the theme: “Bridge Building: From Theory to Practice”, with a special focus on the practical application of theoretical knowledge and enhancing the skills
and expertise of Engineers in Bridge and Road construction.
The training programme held recently at the Public Service Staff Development Centre, Magodo, covered various aspects of bridge building, including design, construction, and maintenance with renowned experts in Construction Engineering delivering lectures and leading
hands-on sessions.
Speaking during the opening session, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola described the training as not just an event; but a cornerstone in the State’s ongoing commitment towards enhancing infrastructure development in Lagos.

While acknowledging the contributions of his predecessor, the former Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Engr. (Mrs.) Aramide Adeyoye, under whose leadership a solid foundation was laid for development in the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Daramola said her
unwavering dedication and strategic initiatives have been instrumental in bringing about the current progress such as the intensive training on Road and Bridge Construction.
“We have gathered experts and thought leaders in the field who will share their insights, experiences, and cutting-edge techniques to enhance our technical skills and also empower us to implement these designs effectively in our day-to-day activities”, the Special
Adviser said.
While expressing gratitude to the facilitators, Messrs GELD Construction, and the Project Monitoring, Evaluation and Training Department (PMET), Engr. Daramola noted that punctuality and active participation are essential to the successful outcome of the workshop.
He, therefore, encouraged the participants to optimise the inherent opportunities and emerge with a deeper understanding and renewed commitment to advancing the infrastructure of the State.
The Permanent Secretary, Office of Infrastructure, Engr. Lateef Somide also enjoined the participants to make the training worthwhile, adding that if the participants were to be given money it might not last, but the knowledge gathered at the training would be
forever useful and will add to their wealth of experience and resources.
Mr. Nabeel Esaw, General Manager, GELD Construction, the co-sponsor of the workshop, also encouraged the participants to be open to knowledge and the shared expertise of the facilitators because knowledge is not found every day and often comes at a price.
The training programme is a crucial step towards enhancing the skills and expertise of engineers in Lagos State, equipping them to handle the complex challenges of bridge building and maintenance in a special terrain like Lagos. The 60 participants were drawn
from the Ministry of Works, Office of Infrastructure and the Public Works Corporation.
Also in attendance at the Opening Ceremony of the three-day training programme was the General Manager of Public Works Corporation, Engr. Tokunbo Ajanaku and Director, Road Construction, Office of Infrastructure, Engr. Tokunbo Oyenuga among others.
