REPS QUESTION MINISTER OVER N45M SPENT ON NEW YEAR PARTY
Agency Report
The House of Representatives has queried the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, for spending unrelated expenditures, including N45m for a New Year party, N20m for sanitary pads, the News Agency of Nigeria reports on Wednesday.
Others include N1.5m for vehicle fuel.
According to NAN, the minister was questioned by Rep. Kafilat Ogbara, the chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs, on the N1.5 billion that contractors had not been paid despite the amount being released in Abuja.
She clarified that the purpose of the inquiry hearing was to find the truth, not to persecute the Minister and ministry workers

In response to a petition by contractors, the committee also looked into the purported misappropriation of money intended for contractor payments.
The committee sought explanations on the N1.5 billion intended for contractor payments and the money allocated for the African First Lady’s mission.
Nonetheless, the minister denied the claims of embezzlement, excessive expenditure, and failure to pay contractors.
The Director of Finance and Administration agreed that only approved contracts were paid, and the procurement officer verified the contractors’ statements.
It would be recalled that the committee had at its last sitting summoned the minister to appear before it to explain the rationale behind the non-payment.
The committee also mandated that the Ministry of Women’s Affairs halt all 2024 contract procedures until the whereabouts of the funding for those contracts were ascertained.
