NATIONWIDE PROTESTS: NORTHERN GROUPS URGE FG TO REVIEW ANTI-PEOPLE POLICIES

Read Time:1 Minute, 38 Second

The federal government has been encouraged by the Coalition of Northern Groups to reconsider economic policies that it deems unfavorable and to step up efforts to combat banditry and other forms of insecurity, particularly in the North.

Additionally, they urged the governments of the Northern States to immediately address the needs and goals of the community by expanding access to high-quality education, reducing poverty, providing transportation subsidies, and inspiring young people to turn to agriculture as a source of income in order to keep them off the streets.

During a press briefing in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, Hussaini Hassan, the State Coordinator of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) in Zamfara State, made the call. He expressed concern over the protesters’ waving of the Russian flag and chanting of anti-democratic songs, and he called on President Putin and the military to intervene in Nigeria.

The group added that although democracy in Nigeria has not achieved its main goal, all Nigerians must work together to make it function, and as a result, Nigerians should not permit foreign actors to meddle in domestic protests in order to jeopardize the nation’s sovereignty.

CNG stated that the immense suffering being endured in the nation is a result of the Tinubu-led administration’s elimination of gasoline and energy subsidies as well as the floating of the naira.

The group urged the demonstrators, local authorities, and security services to uphold the law and show patriotism, as using violence will only deepen divisions and impede the progress of the nation.

However, the Coalition denounced the altercation between security personnel and demonstrators, as well as the thugs who used the nonviolent demonstration to steal people’s belongings. It also denounced the infiltration of foreign agents into Nigerian affairs, claiming that these actions could compromise the protest’s goals and increase unrest and violence in the nation.
