Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, has emphasised the critical need for compassion, empathy, and action in addressing global challenges.

Speaking at an event on Monday, August 19, 2024, to commemorate World Humanitarian Day with the theme: “No Matter What: Humanitarians Deliver”, Hon. Dada highlighted the significance of humanitarian efforts, particularly in the context of poverty alleviation and the empowerment of women.

She stressed that women, who often make up the majority of those living in poverty, should be at the forefront of humanitarian interventions.

“Poverty alleviation and the empowerment of women are not just policies; they are humanitarian imperatives. When we invest in women, we uplift entire communities, paving the way for a more equitable and just society”, Mrs. Dada remarked.

The Commissioner called on governments, organisations, and individuals to come together, transcending boundaries and ideologies, to prioritise human dignity above all else.

Dada called for collective action to support those facing hardship, including conflict, displacement, and inequality, noting that the response to these challenges defines the strength of our societies.

Hon. Dada also paid tribute to the countless aid workers, community leaders, and activists who continue to work tirelessly in the face of adversity. She encouraged everyone to contribute to humanitarian efforts, no matter how small, as each act of kindness and support can ignite hope and change lives.

The Commissioner urged the public to reflect on the importance of humanitarianism and to consider how they can contribute to making a positive impact on the lives of others.

World Humanitarian Day is observed annually on August 19 to honour those who have dedicated their lives to humanitarian causes and to raise awareness about the ongoing need for global compassion and action.

The Highlight of the event was a walk with the WAPA NGO Dept, Staff and registered women-focused NGOs from Shoprite Bus Stop Alausa, through Lagos State House of Assembly ground and back to the Secretariat Alausa.
