ONE CHILD DIES, SIX INJURED IN ANAMBRA ROAD CRASH
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has reported that a road accident at Oyeagu Market, Abagana in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State resulted in the death of one female child and injuries to six others.
According to Margaret Onabe, Acting Sector Public Education Officer of the Anambra State Command of FRSC, the accident involved a Sienna bus with registration number NEN 588 YX, belonging to the Transport Company of Anambra State (TRACAS), driven by Eze Uchechukwu. The probable cause of the crash was brake failure, which caused the vehicle to ram into the market.
Onabe stated that the FRSC rescue team from RS5.3 Nteje arrived at the scene to find that the injured victims had been taken to Urban Hospital and Maternity for medical attention, while the deceased victim was taken to the morgue. The vehicle was impounded by the DTO team Oyiagu.
The FRSC team visited the hospital to assess the condition of the injured victims. Sector Commander Anambra State, Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
Alexander advised motorists to regularly service their vehicles to meet minimum safety standards before using the road. She also warned market women to refrain from displaying their wares and selling by the roadside.
