18 BURNT TO DEATH IN OGUN ACCIDENT
In Ogun State, at Ogbere, on the Ijebuode-Ore Expressway, a single accident claimed the lives of no fewer than eighteen persons.
An automobile bearing the license plate XA 690AKU, a Toyota Hiace, was involved in the collision.
One passenger suffered a major injury, while the other eighteen were completely burned beyond recognition.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, a spokesman for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), verified the occurrence.
Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), often known as gasoline, which was kept in a Jerry can inside the car, caught fire, according to Akinbiyi, who also claimed responsibility for the disaster.
“According to a witness account and this was corroborated by the driver, there was a keg full of Petroleum Motor Spirit (sic) inside the bus, it fell on its side when the vehicle got to the failed portion of the road. The PMS poured on the floor of the bus and later dropped on the exhaust pipe and caused the vehicle to catch fire in transit,” he said.
