The PharmAccess Foundation was praised by the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) for creating and transferring the Regulations’ Portal to the Agency.

At the recent handover ceremony held in Alausa, Ikeja, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, revealed that the Regulations portal’s journey began in 2020 and resulted in the development of the portal, which is the first of its kind for any State Social Health Insurance Agency (SSHIA) in the nation.

According to Dr. Zamba, PharmAccess hosted the Portal following its creation so that they could keep an eye on its functionality and performance. She continued by saying that following the transfer, LASHMA’s Regulations Department would be able to effectively run the portal to suit the operations of the Agency.

She pledged that the Agency will use the gateway responsibly in order to fulfill its intended goal.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the transfer of authority is appropriate since it has sparked discussions among interested parties on the execution of the newly signed Executive Order by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the documentation of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Act.

She asked all other State donor partners to help the Agency and make sure that, working together, Lagos State achieves Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The PharmAccess Foundation’s Country Director, Mrs. Njide Ndili, stated that the organization set out on this adventure because of its longstanding relationship with Lagos State and its conviction that the State Government would quickly attain Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

She continued by saying that with Lagos State’s mandated health insurance, the options were virtually endless because patients would no longer have to pay for their own medical expenditures out of pocket.

The Foundation is prepared to assist the Agency, the Country Director stated, particularly with regard to the digital transformation of health insurance and laboratories, among other areas.

Njide stated that since we live in a technologically advanced society, LASHMA should notify the Foundation right away if any extraordinary success using the portal is noted.

Mr. Tosin Awosika, the Coordinator of Regulations, praised the Foundation for its thoughtful gift to LASHMA. According to him, the portal’s design satisfies the Agency’s needs, but since health insurance is now required, the Agency will keep making improvements to the portal as needed.

Attendees at the event included Dr. Ademola Serrano, the PharmAccess Foundation’s Innovation Manager; Mr. Sefiu Oladejo, Head of ICT LASHMA; Adeyinka Gbemilade, the Public Affairs Officer at LASHMA; and Mr. Ade Davies, the PharmAccess Foundation’s Communication Officer and Consultant, respectively.
