LAGOS TASKFORCE SEIZED 82 OKADA IN STATEWIDE ENFORCEMENT OPERATIONS
The Lagos State Taskforce has increased its strict measures on illegal commercial motorcycle operations, known as okada, seizing 82 motorcycles in recent enforcement activities across different parts of the state.
The government’s continuous efforts to enforce the ban on okada in restricted zones include the operations, which are being carried out in locations such as Mile 2 Oke, Orile, and Berger.
The Lagos State Taskforce Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, emphasized the organization’s commitment to enforcing the law and issued a warning that anyone found to be in violation of the ban, including passengers, will be prosecuted.
“Passengers on okada are as guilty as the riders. If caught, they will face the full weight of the law alongside the riders,” CSP Akerele stated.
According to him, the government has not changed its position on the prohibition, citing safety concerns and the need to keep commercial motorcyclists out of the pandemonium that often occurs on Lagos roadways.
The Taskforce stated that the state government will receive the impounded motorcycles after the necessary judicial proceedings.
While the task force continues to be committed to upholding law and order on the state’s roadways, Lagos residents are reminded to abide by the law and refrain from purchasing Okada in restricted zones.
