In a significant breakthrough, eight out of the nine individuals abducted in Kanya District of Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area have been rescued by a joint team of security operatives, the Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Kebbi State Police spokesman Nafiu Abubakar.
The rescue operation was carried out after a gunfight in Sakaba Forest.
The victims, kidnapped on October 6, 2024, were rescued unhurt and have since been reunited with their families after receiving medical care at the General Hospital, Sakaba.
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State, Bello Sani, commended the bravery and resilience of the combined team of police officers, military personnel, and local vigilantes involved in the operation.
He urged them to maintain their efforts until the District Head of Kanya, who remains in captivity, is safely rescued and the kidnappers are apprehended.
CP Sani also called on members of the public to provide any relevant information that could aid the ongoing rescue efforts and assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
