VIDEO: UFUOMA MCDERMOTT SHARES PERSONAL BATTLE WITH STAGE 4 KIDNEY DISEASE
Nollywood producer and actress Ufuoma McDermott has talked about her experience with Stage 4 renal disease, including how her battles with drug usage and chronic pain almost led to her death.
According to McDermott’s exclusive chat with media personality Chude Jideonwo, she first had health issues after losing her younger brother to kidney disease.
She said that because she put off getting treatment, her kidney condition, which was subsequently identified as Stage 3, advanced to Stage 4.
Years of taking too many painkillers caused McDermott to develop kidney problems.
She said in part, “I had pushed my body and I was borderline stage 4. Last year was a very very trying time in my life where I thought I was gonna die. I have battled chronic kidney disease for about 12 years now.”
