Popular Nigerian cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after denying bribery claims circulating in a viral audio recording.

In an audio circulating on social media, Bobrisky allegedly paid N15 million bribe to EFCC officials to have money laundering charges dropped.

Bobrisky was arrested late Thursday night at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while attempting to board an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight en route to London.

Following the news of the arrest, Bobrisky took to social media, informing his followers that he sustained injuries during the arrest. He was subsequently transferred to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where he faced interrogation over the alleged bribery statements made in the audio recording.

The recording, shared by social commentator Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, purportedly included Bobrisky’s voice claiming he had paid EFCC officials to avoid prosecution for money laundering.

However, at the EFCC headquarters, Bobrisky denied the claims, asserting he never paid any bribe and challenging Otse to prove the authenticity of the recording.

Information gathered from a source said: “He denied everything about releasing money to any official as a bribe to drop the money laundering charges against him. He denied it in his statement. He said the fellow who posted the voice note should come over to justify it. He said nobody requested money from him in the EFCC and he didn’t give anyone anything.”

Meanwhile, the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed Bobrisky’s release but opted not to provide further comments on the matter.
