NEWS: VALENCIA ASK FOR ANOTHER COPA DEL REY POSTPONEMENT AFTER FLOODS

Due to the catastrophic floods in the area, Valencia asked that their postponed Copa del Rey first-round matchup with Parla Escuela be rescheduled for Monday.

Last week, a powerful storm struck the east of Spain, killing at least 217 people and leaving many more missing.

Valencia’s Copa del Rey match was originally scheduled for last week, but the Spanish football federation (RFEF) moved it to November 6.

Los Che requested that the Spanish team postpone their cup match once more, and their La Liga match against champion Real Madrid was also postponed last Saturday.

“The club thinks that, at this time of great difficulty, all energy, attention and support must be focused on helping those affected by the tragic events of (the storm),” said Valencia in a statement.

“Football is in the background. We wish to convey our deepest condolences and our love to the families and friends of the deceased and those affected by this catastrophe that leaves us devastated.”

A number of La Liga coaches and players recommended that all of the games, not just Valencia’s and Villarreal’s matches against Rayo Vallecano, be moved to the weekend.

While Hansi Flick of Barcelona stated that he would have cancelled the entire round of games if he had his way, Diego Simeone, the coach of Atletico, stated that it made “no sense” to play games.
