In Ebonyi State, a soldier on a motorcycle and police officers on a “stop and search” mission clashed, killing one laborer and injuring three more.

Our correspondent learned that the event took place in Ugwuachara village, which is located in the state’s Ebonyi Local Government Area, on Wednesday morning.

When the authorities allegedly attempted to disarm the soldier wearing a mufti, a stray gunshot struck the slain laborer.

While on leave in Ebonyi State, the soldier is reportedly participating in Operation Kachayanma in Kaduna.

Adaku Uche-Anya, the Commissioner of Police, verified the occurrence on Wednesday.

According to her, the soldier was on a motorcycle when the police stopped him for a search as part of a stop-and-search operation, which led to a fight between him and the officers

“We have confirmed the identity of the soldier, he is a soldier serving in Kaduna. Both the soldier and the policemen are in our custody.”
