
BREAKING: SUPREME COURT NULLIFIES NATIONAL LOTTERY ACT
The National Lottery Act 2005, which was passed by the National Assembly, was declared invalid by the Supreme Court on Friday.
In a unanimous ruling, a seven-member Supreme Court panel ruled that the National Lottery Act of 2005 should no longer be applied in all states other than the Federal Capital Territory, where the National Assembly has the authority to enact legislation.
In its main ruling, Justice Mohammed Idris of the Supreme Court ruled that the National Assembly was not authorized to enact laws pertaining to lotteries and other games of chance.
The court also stated that such powers only reside with the state Houses of Assembly, which possess exclusive jurisdiction over lottery and games of chance.
