BORNO DEPUTY GOV, OVER 100 OTHERS ESCAPE TRAGIC PLANE INCIDENT
A Max Air aircraft suffered an engine fire shortly after takeoff from Maiduguri International Airport, just sparing Umar Kadafur, the Deputy Governor of Borno State, and more than 100 other passengers.
The event happened at approximately 7 p.m. on Wednesday when a bird hit about 10 minutes into the flight led the aircraft, which was headed to Abuja, to have engine failure. Disaster was avoided when the pilot and crew executed an emergency landing back at Maiduguri Airport.
The event was confirmed Thursday morning by a Max Air employee who asked not to be named.
The staff member said, “Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft struck a bird mid-air, which caused one of the engines to catch fire. The pilot acted swiftly to ensure the safety of all passengers.”
Following the emergency landing, passengers were reportedly in a state of panic, with many opting to collect their luggage and return home rather than board another flight.
Nevertheless, Max Air management quickly set up a second plane from Kano to securely transfer the deputy governor and other passengers to Abuja.
A commissioner, special advisers, senior special assistants, and other aides were among the government dignitaries aboard the trip in addition to the deputy governor.
While undergoing significant repairs, the unfortunate aircraft was stranded at Maiduguri International Airport. Since then, investigations into the incident have begun.
Airport officials have complimented the crew for their skill in handling the issue and reassured travellers of their dedication to safety.
