HEALTH: NBMA MOVES TO PREVENT SPREAD OF NEW COVID-19 VARIANT XEC
To safeguard Nigeria against the recently discovered COVID-19 variant, XEC, the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) has taken preventative action.
The agency has increased its efforts to stop the variant’s introduction and protect public safety, even though no cases of it have been reported in the nation.
The NBMA announced the stepping up of monitoring at borders, airports, and other points of entry in a statement released Monday and signed by Gloria Ogbaki, the organisation’s head of information and public relations.
In order to lessen any possible risks that the variation may bring, the NBMA underlined its dedication to strengthening immunisation campaigns and public health initiatives.
The organisation urged Nigerians to maintain their vigilance by using credible health information, practicing preventive techniques including mask use and hand washing, and making sure their immunisations and booster shots are current.
Additionally, it is recommended that anyone exhibiting symptoms like fever, coughing, dyspnoea, or loss of taste or smell get medical help right away.
Furthermore, the public was advised to cooperate with health authorities by promptly reporting suspected instances and adhering to quarantine or isolation procedures when necessary.
The NBMA promised to give Nigerians frequent information as the crisis progresses and reassured them of its commitment to protecting public health.
