
MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS: WAPA SENSITISE SGBV SURVIVORS
The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) recently held a Mental Health Awareness Sensitization Programme for survivors of gender-based violence at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ikeja.
In her remarks at the one-day event, the Honourable Commissioner for WAPA, Mrs. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, stated that the initiative aimed to promote mental health awareness, with a particular focus on supporting survivors of gender-based violence.
The Commissioner reiterated the government’s dedication to assisting survivors and addressing the psychological challenges caused by such violence.
The Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Oluyemi Kalesanwo, thanked all attendees and stakeholders, emphasizing the Ministry’s commitment to fostering a society free from violence and stigma.
One of the facilitators, Mrs. Silifat Giwa, Director of the Wellness Centre in Alausa, delivered insightful presentations on identifying early signs of depression, embracing self-love, and seeking timely counselling.
Another facilitator, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Alade, Head of WAPA’s Legal Unit, educated participants about their legal rights and how to pursue justice effectively.
The programme underscored WAPA’s ongoing efforts to enhance mental wellness and empower survivors, reinforcing its commitment to their overall well-being.
