The Nigerian Police Force has refuted claims circulating on social media alleging the theft of N1.098 billion from the Enugu State government account, categorically stating that the account was never hacked.

In a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the police dismissed the allegations as false and clarified that the case involved procurement fraud, not a cyber breach.

The statement, titled “Enugu State Government Account was Never Hacked – Police Confirms Theft of N1.09BN False”, reads:

“The Nigeria Police Force hereby categorically dismisses the false narrative and rumor circulating online about an alleged hack of the Enugu State Government’s official account, resulting in the theft of N1.09 billion.

“This assertion is completely unfounded. There has been no hacking of the Enugu State Government’s account, and the allegations of a theft amounting to N1.09 billion are entirely baseless.

“The case, investigated by the National Cyber Crime Centre (NCCC), was a matter of procurement fraud, not a cyber-breach. The suspect has been arrested, and the stolen funds have already been recovered.

“The Enugu State Government, alongside other ministries, departments, agencies, and corporate firms, continues to work closely with the NCCC to maintain robust security protocols that safeguard their financial systems.

“We encourage citizens to refrain from spreading misinformation and to verify the credibility of news sources before sharing.”
