Yinka Kabiru, 43, was detained in a correctional facility on Thursday by the Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court in Mapo for allegedly stealing N100,000 worth of clothing and rice.

Kabiru, whose home address was withheld, entered a not guilty plea to the two counts of stealing and pretence.

The defendant was unable to meet the requirements for bail; thus, the magistrate, Mrs. O.O. Latunji, ordered her to be held at Agodi Correctional Centre.

Kabiru was given N100,000 in bail by Latunji, along with two trustworthy sureties in line with the sum.

She postponed the case until a hearing on March 5.

Insp. Oluseye Akinola, the prosecutor, had previously informed the court that Kabiru had committed the crime in the Opeyemi-Idiaro neighbourhood of Ibadan in November 2024.

“She promised to pay by the end of Nov. 2024, but she disappeared. She was later apprehended by the police following intelligence from concerned neighbours,” he said

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap. 38, Vol. II, Law of Oyo State.
