TRUCK CRUSHES MOTORCYCLE RIDER TO DEATH IN RIVERS
A truck has crushed a young man identified as Mr. Samuel Nmekini to death in Rivers State.
Nmekini, a commercial motorcyclist, was crushed by a heavy-duty truck reportedly belonging to Dangote Plc, on Tuesday 14th January, at the Malina Bust Stop, along the Rundele section of the East-West road in Emohua Local Government Area of the State.
A source privy to the development, said the deceased, Nmekini, a native of Omofo Clan in Rundele Kingdom of the LGA, was with his colleagues at the junction when the driver of the heavy-duty truck lost control and crushed him, while others escaped.
The source said the victim who was later brought out under the truck alive died while he was being rushed to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Paramount Ruler and Eze Nwe Eli Omofo Rundele IV, His Royal Highness, Eze Sir Edison Omeodu, while reacting to the development, described it as sad and unfortunate.
Omeodu recalled that a similar incident had occurred first week of January, 2024 where one Ibeauchi Onuoha, an okada rider who also hailed from Omofo was also killed by a trailer alongside a female passenger, at the same Malina junction along the East-West road.
He advised motorcycle operators and other residents in the area to always be cautious, even as he cautioned truck drivers against reckless driving.
Omeodu further condoled with the family of the deceased and prayed God to give them the fortitude to bear what he described as irreparable loss.
