YOBE GOVERNMENT FREES 30 INMATES
The Yobe State government has granted a pardon to 30 inmates held in various correctional facilities for different offenses.
This was confirmed by Alhassan Sule Mamudo, the Chief Information Officer at the Ministry for Justice, in Damaturu.
Mamudo explained that the pardon was issued following recommendations from the State’s Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, chaired by Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Saleh Samanja.
Before granting the release, the council visited the Potiskum, Nguru, and Gashu’a correctional facilities to assess which inmates were eligible for pardon.
He added that the state periodically grants freedom to inmates with minor offenses or fines as part of efforts to reduce overcrowding in correctional facilities.
