The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has cautioned officers of the command against any actions that could damage the force’s reputation.

Ogunlowo also reminded the officers that they were not trained to kill.

He stated that, following the directive from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, any police officers caught wearing mufti during official duties would face strict disciplinary measures.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the state police command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, the CP issued this warning while addressing officers during his visit to the Ilaro Area Command. The visit was aimed at reinforcing key directives to enhance professionalism and public trust in the police force.

During the visit, Ogunlowo emphasized the Inspector General of Police’s order that all tactical officers must be fully attired in their police uniforms while on duty. He issued a firm warning that any officer found operating in mufti would face severe disciplinary consequences.

The statement partly reads, “The CP also engaged with newly posted constables to various divisions, emphasising the importance of good public relations.

“He urged them to always put their best efforts into serving the public, maintaining professionalism, and treating citizens with respect and decorum.

“Ogunlowo reminded officers that they are public servants and must never use their firearms to intimidate the public, as the police are not trained to kill, adding that officers carrying firearms must be well-versed in the laws governing their use.”

Ogunlowo directed officers to prioritize the proper upkeep of patrol vehicles.

He warned against the careless handling of police vehicles, stressing that any intentional misuse resulting in damage would not be tolerated, as these assets are meant to serve the public and should not be exploited for personal gain.

The Commissioner’s visit, as stated, highlighted the state police command’s dedication to maintaining professionalism, discipline, and ensuring public safety.
