NIGER CATHOLIC BISHOP JOIN 21 COUPLES IN MASS WEDDING CEREMONY
In Niger State, 21 couples were married in a mass ceremony officiated by Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Yohanna, the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese.
Couples who had finished their traditional marriage ceremonies and three months of marriage counselling were brought together for the ceremony at the St. Mark Catholic Church in Nsanji Nkoso, Magama local government district.
Bishop Yohanna stated that the ceremony was required to guarantee that the couples were legally wed in the eyes of the church.
He underlined that it is improper for a couple to live together until they are officially married and have received church blessings. The bishop emphasised that marriage is a lifelong commitment and urged the couples to base their union on love and friendship.
Mr. and Mrs. Cyprian Uche, one of the couples, thanked the bishop for assisting them in formally establishing their relationship. The couple, who have five kids and have lived together for 22 years, expressed their excitement at being legally married. Mrs. Uche mentioned that she could now occupy roles in the women’s fellowship, something she had previously been unable to do.
Before being wedded in holy matrimony, the couples had undertaken extensive counselling and fulfilled all prerequisites, according to Rev. Fr. Francis Joshua, the parish priest.
