Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court has scheduled April 24 for the trial of three staff members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, who are accused of assaulting operatives from the State Security Service (SSS) during the leadership crisis on February 17, 2025.

The defendants, Ibrahim Olanrewaju, Adetu Adekunle, and Fatimoh Adetola, appeared before the court, where they pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

The DSS had filed charges against the three individuals under case number FHC/L/273C/2025, accusing them, along with others still at large, of conspiring to assault SSS officers while they were on duty. The accused allegedly obstructed the officers’ official duties without justification.

On February 17, 2025, the defendants were accused of further aiding and abetting the obstruction of the officers, also without reasonable cause. Additionally, they are charged with cyberstalking by recording and distributing false information via social media to incite a breakdown of law and order across the country.

The prosecution claims that Ibrahim Olanrewaju and Adetu Adekunle used an iPhone 12 Pro Max and a Tecno POP 8 to record and spread misleading information to embarrass the SSS, thereby disrupting public peace.

The charges, according to prosecutor Barrister M.O. Bajela, include violations of sections 516 of the Criminal Code Act, as well as multiple provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 (as amended, 2024).

The three defendants denied the charges when read to them.

Following their not guilty pleas, Barrister Bajela requested a trial date. The defendants’ attorney, Mr. Frank E., informed the court that he had submitted bail applications, which had been served to the prosecutor. He referred to the prosecution as “collateral damage” and urged the court to grant bail under liberal conditions.

The prosecutor, after confirming receipt of the bail applications, left the matter to the court’s discretion.

Ruling on the bail applications, Justice Osiagor granted bail to each defendant in the amount of N3 million, with one surety each. The surety must be at least a Grade Level 12 officer.

The judge then adjourned the trial to June 24, 2025.
