NATASHA: ‘AKPABIO MUST GO’ PROTEST ERUPTS IN ABUJA [PHOTOS]

At the National Assembly on Wednesday, civil society representatives and supporters of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan demanded that Senate President Godswill Akpabio resign while the sexual harassment claims against him are looked into.

Just a few hours before the plenary session resumed, the demonstrators reached the National Assembly entrance as early as 8:00 am.

The protesters, holding banners that read, “Akpabio Must Go” and “Protect Women’s Rights,” called for accountability and requested the Senate to look into the grave charges against Akpabio.

The demonstration was held a few days after Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of harassing her and that he singled her out after she turned down his advances.

The Senate became more tense after the startling accusation was made in a live television appearance.

On February 20, 2025, a change in seating arrangements sparked the issue, which Akpoti-Uduaghan characterized as reprisal for turning down Akpabio’s purported advances.

A spokesperson for the protesting groups said their objective is to ensure a transparent and unbiased investigation.

“We are here to demand justice for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and to hold those in power accountable. No one is above the law,” the spokesperson said.
