EFCC VS. EEZEE TEE: COURT ADJOURNS CASE TILL MAY 14
By Aishat Momoh. O.
A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has adjourned the arraignment of Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, widely known as Eezee Tee, a former manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, to May 14 due to ongoing administrative procedures.
Justice Alexander Owoeye informed the court that certain administrative processes were still pending, which led to the postponement of the scheduled arraignment.
The judge clarified that no ruling would be made on the case until the necessary administrative procedures were completed.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had charged Eezee Tee and his company with money laundering and the dishonest conversion of $340,000.
During Thursday’s proceedings, Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari appeared on behalf of the prosecution, while Mr. Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN) and Dr. Monday Ubani represented the defence.
The prosecutor informed the court that the matter was set for the defendant’s arraignment, with Eezee Tee present in court. Defence counsel Ojukwu confirmed the defence’s readiness to proceed.
However, Justice Owoeye informed both parties that the arraignment would not proceed as scheduled due to the ongoing administrative processes.
Defence counsel Ojukwu inquired whether this meant that the case should maintain its current status quo. In response, the court stated that no pronouncements would be made on the case until the administrative steps were concluded.
The court then adjourned the case to May 14, with both parties agreeing to the new date.
In the charges, the defendant is accused of withholding funds generated from Mercy Chinwo’s digital platforms and events.
It is worth noting that on January 16, the EFCC had secured an arrest warrant for Eezee Tee, which was withdrawn on January 24. At the previous adjournment on February 17, the court had ordered the defendant to appear for arraignment.
