‘SORRY FOR THE INSULTS,’ NATASHA APOLOGIZES TO EZEKWESILI OVER DISPUTE WITH NWAEBONYI

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the embattled senator from Kogi Central, has apologized to former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili for her altercation with Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, the senator from Ebonyi North.
At Tuesday’s Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions hearing on a new petition filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Ezekwesili and Nwaebonyi clashed.
The legislator from Kogi has accused Akpabio of sexually harassing, intimidating, and defaming her on multiple occasions.
Ezekwesili testified at the Senate committee hearing on Tuesday with petitioner Zubairu Yakubu and Akpoti-Uduaghan’s attorney Abiola Akiode.
Throughout the hearing, Nwaebonyi, who testified on behalf of Akpabio, kept interrupting the former minister.
Ezekwesili then asked the Senate Deputy Chief Whip to “compose himself and stop making noise” and said “please, will you shut up?”.
Following the comments, Nwaebonyi lashed out at the former minister.
Responding, Nwaebonyi said, “You’re a fool. What do you mean? Why are you talking to me like that? I will not take it. You’re an insult to womanhood. People like you cannot be here.”
In an X post on Wednesday, Akpoti-Uduaghan responded to the altercation by expressing regret to Ezekwesili for the taunts the Imo legislator had directed at her.
The former minister’s steadfast dedication to democracy, education, and good government was also praised by the Kogi senator.
She wrote, “Ma’am, I apologise for the insults. Know you took them for me… for us … as a mother and as a leader. Know that you are a true icon of integrity, courage, and visionary leadership.
“Your unwavering commitment to good governance, education and democracy continues to inspire generations.
“A champion of accountability… Nigerians appreciate you. I celebrate your brilliance, resilience and selfless service. You are a hero.”
