CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA DEBUNKS FAKE N5,000 AND N10,000 BANKNOTES CIRCULATION CLAIMS

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has officially discredited viral claims suggesting the introduction of new N5,000 and N10,000 banknotes. The apex bank, through its verified X (formerly Twitter) account, clarified that the circulating images and accompanying messages were false.
A widely shared post alleged that the CBN planned to release high-denomination notes starting from May 1, 2025, featuring prominent Nigerian leaders. However, the bank refuted these claims, labeling them as “FAKE CONTENT” and urging the public to rely only on official channels for accurate financial updates.
“The content is NOT from the Central Bank of Nigeria. Kindly note that the official website of the CBN is [cbn.gov.ng](https://cbn.gov.ng),” the bank stated emphatically.
The false information had stirred discussions about the possible implications of such high-value notes on inflation and liquidity management. However, with this official denial, the CBN has reaffirmed its stance against misinformation and underscored its commitment to transparency in monetary policy.
