ROUTE VIOLATIONS: LAGOS STATE GOVT ISSUES STERN WARNING TO ‘KOROPE’ DRIVERS

The Lagos State Government has warned commercial bus operators, particularly ‘Korope’ drivers, to strictly follow traffic regulations.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, directed ‘Korope’ operators to stop using unauthorized routes immediately, warning that violations would attract penalties.

He stated that this directive aligns with the government’s efforts to maintain order on Lagos roads and ensure smooth traffic flow. LASTMA operatives have been instructed to intensify enforcement against reckless driving and illegal practices disrupting urban mobility.

Hon. Giwa also cautioned against unauthorized parking and loading on public roads, which worsen congestion and endanger other road users. He stressed that commercial operators must operate only at designated bus stops and terminals to prevent unnecessary traffic disruptions.

“Illegal parking and flagrant route violations have metamorphosed into a grave menace in Lagos, particularly due to the arbitrary conduct of minibus operators. Such transgressions, which impede traffic fluidity and endanger public safety, will no longer be condoned. LASTMA has been expressly instructed to enforce absolute compliance with extant traffic laws and to apprehend defaulters accordingly,” Hon. Giwa asserted.

“Furthermore, strict adherence to designated routes is imperative for security purposes, as it acts as a deterrent against unscrupulous elements who exploit commercial vehicles, particularly ‘Korope,’ for illicit activities.”

LASTMA urged all road users, especially commercial transport operators, to comply with traffic regulations and support enforcement efforts by promoting responsible driving.
