IED PLANTED BY ISWAP EXPLODES IN BORNO, INJURING ONE
An improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in Meleri Village, Damboa Local Government Area, on Saturday, leaving one person injured.
The incident was reported by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, who shared the information on his X account.
According to Makama, intelligence sources revealed that two individuals, Alhaji Sanda, a resident of the Hansari IDP camp, and Bulama Zarayye, 40, were gathering baobab tree seeds when Zarayye accidentally stepped on an IED.
The device, suspected to have been planted by members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), exploded, causing injuries to Zarayye’s buttocks, right hand, and thigh.
Makama reported that a joint security team, including military personnel and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) unit members, was quickly deployed to the scene.
“The area was cordoned off, and a search for additional explosive devices was carried out, but no further devices were found.
“Zarayye was transported to the General Hospital in Damboa, where he is presently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition,” he added.
