AIR PEACE PROMISES TO BRING BACK TRAFFICKED UNDERAGE GIRLS FROM CÔTE D’IVOIRE
The Chairman of Air Peace, Dr. Allen Onyema, has expressed grave concern and condemnation regarding the recent discovery of underaged Nigerian girls trafficked to Côte d’Ivoire. He made this known through a statement he personally signed and shared with journalists on Saturday.
Onyema assured that his airline would facilitate the safe return of the girls to Nigeria from the French-speaking West African nation at no cost.
This follows a revelation by social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, on Thursday, that at least 1,200 underaged Nigerian girls were being held in Côte d’Ivoire. Otse also threatened to take action against Abike Dabiri, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, if the girls were not repatriated within a week.
A video showed Otse comforting some of the young Nigerian girls who were crying and speaking in Hausa. Onyema further pledged immediate medical care for the girls upon their return to Nigeria.
In his words, “We should discourage trafficking of any kind. It is inhumane and callous. It is absolutely ungodly and a good example of man’s inhumanity to man. We at Air Peace are ready to bring our fellow citizens back home free of charge.
“Besides that, we are going to send all of them to Duchess International Hospital in Ikeja for free medical examination and treatment.
“While we implore the Nigerian Embassy in Cote D’Ivoire to assemble them and reach out to us, we equally call on the Federal Government to take charge of their education while reuniting them with their families.”
