AKANU IBIAM AIRPORT SET TO REOPEN MONDAY AFTER RUNWAY FIX
The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that flight operations will resume at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, on Monday, April 28, 2025.
According to a statement by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the airport had been shut down for emergency repairs after a sudden and significant rupture appeared on a critical section of the runway. The closure, which began on April 18, was initially scheduled to last until May 6. However, rehabilitation works were completed ahead of schedule, allowing for an earlier reopening.
FAAN expressed gratitude to all airport users and stakeholders for their patience and understanding during the closure. The agency apologized for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that the repairs were carried out with safety as the top priority.
Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, emphasized that all actions were taken in the interest of ensuring safe operations at the airport.
