A 52-year-old man, Lucky Segun, was arraigned on Wednesday before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly failing to present a suspect for whom he had stood as surety.

Segun, who faces charges of contempt of court and being an accessory after the fact, pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Femi Omilana, the incident occurred on March 7 at the Command Monitoring Unit in Eleyele, Ibadan.

Omilana stated that Segun had guaranteed the appearance of Abayomi Badejo, who is being investigated for obtaining money under false pretences and theft, but failed to produce him when required.

He further alleged that Segun knowingly assisted Badejo in evading arrest, thereby making himself an accessory after the crime.

The charges violate Sections 126 and 519 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Presiding Magistrate Adebola Adeola granted Segun bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like amount and adjourned the case until June 13 for hearing.
