NiDCOM RECEIVES ANOTHER SET OF 13 TRAFFICKED NIGERIANS FROM GHANA, MALI
Thirteen more Nigerians who were trafficked from Ghana and Mali have been delivered to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
The victims, 12 girls and a 5-year-old child, were received by NiDCOM Chairman Abike Dabiri-Erewa, according to a statement released on Sunday by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit NiDCOM.
Under the pretence of assisting them in obtaining employment in Ghana and Mali, respectively, the girls allegedly claimed that they had been duped and coerced into prostitution.
The victims also described how their traffickers in Ghana and Mali sexually and physically tortured them and left them emotionally traumatised, according to the statement.
Dabiri-Erewa also gave the girls the assurance that NIDCOM would continue to provide the necessary logistics, make sure they were reunited with their families, and collaborate with the state governors in order to rehabilitate the girls.
In order to combat modern-day slavery, she also advocated for a crackdown on human traffickers and agents, naming and shaming them following the appropriate legal action.
NIDCOM subsequently transported the girls to NAPTIP for the required documentation and profiling.
