FORMER MILITARY GOVERNOR OF KATSINA, AKAAGERGER, HAS DIED

The Benue State government has announced the passing of retired Colonel Joseph Akaagerger, the former military governor of Katsina State.

A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Benue Governor, Mr. Tersoo Kula, and shared with the press in Makurdi on Tuesday, confirmed the news. Kula revealed that the former governor passed away on Thursday, May 15, at the age of 69.

Gov. Hyacinth Alia expressed profound sorrow over the unexpected death of the former senator who represented Benue North-East Senatorial District (Zone A). He described Akaagerger as a patriotic Nigerian who dedicated himself to both the nation and Benue State during his lifetime.

The Governor highlighted that, in addition to his political service as a lawmaker and senator, Akaagerger made significant contributions in business, community service, and philanthropy.

Gov. Alia lamented the loss of such a valuable individual, emphasizing that the state would greatly miss his guidance, particularly as an elder statesman and influential member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Forum in Benue.

He offered condolences to the late senator’s family, friends, and the people of both Benue and Nigeria, urging them to find comfort in the lasting legacies he left behind and to build upon them to honor his memory. He also prayed for eternal peace for the departed senator.
