A thrilling semi-final clash awaits as six-time champions Rangers International square off against Kwara United today in the 2025 President Federation Cup at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.

The high-stakes encounter pits two Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) sides against each other, with a coveted place in the final of Nigeria’s oldest football competition on the line.

Rangers booked their semi-final spot with a narrow 1–0 win over Plateau United in Abuja, while Kwara United saw off Akwa United to reach this stage. The Enugu-based side is aiming to return to the final for the second time in three years and secure their first title since the unforgettable 2018 ‘Asaba Miracle’, where they came back from three goals down to defeat Kano Pillars on penalties.

In addition to their 2018 triumph, Rangers boast an illustrious Federation Cup history with titles in 1974, 1975, 1976, 1981, and 1983.

Kwara United, on the other hand, are seeking a historic first-ever appearance in the Federation Cup final. Their impressive cup run has earned plaudits, and they are determined to upset the odds against a Rangers team rich in tradition and experience.

“We are ready to face any club in the Federation Cup,” said Rangers defender Effimi Nsi ahead of the game. “We don’t fear any team but respect all. I can assure our supporters that we are fully prepared to reach the final.”

The match is expected to be closely contested, with both sides carrying momentum, ambition, and significant fan backing into the showdown.

In the second men’s semi-final also taking place today, underdogs Abakaliki FC of Ebonyi State will battle Lagos-based Ikorodu City at the FIFA Goal Project pitch in Bwari, Abuja, as both clubs eye a fairy-tale run to the final.
