VIDEO: COURT REMANDS MAN CAUGHT DUMPING WASTE ILLEGALLY ON LAGOS BRIDGE
By Oduola F.A.
A man identified as Olawale Ogunbadejo has been remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for four weeks — until June 26 — after being caught on camera illegally dumping refuse on the Alapere Link Bridge in Lagos.
Ogunbadejo, a resident of 25 Ajiboye Street, Ketu, Alapere, was arrested following the viral video, which showed him repeatedly disposing waste at an unauthorised location. The footage was captured by a Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) field officer with the help of a nearby trader who volunteered to support surveillance efforts.
The video sparked public outrage and prompted swift action from the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources. Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab confirmed the remand via his official X handle, warning that environmental violations will no longer be tolerated.
LAWMA had earlier appealed to the public for help identifying the offender and offered a small reward for credible information. The agency said Ogunbadejo’s actions undermined the work of waste managers and posed a threat to public health.
The Lagos government has urged residents to remain vigilant and report similar offences through official channels, assuring full confidentiality for informants.
LAWMA reiterated its commitment to protecting the environment and maintaining a clean and livable Lagos, urging residents to play their part by reporting environmental infractions.
