The Nigeria Police Force has released a total of N22.98 billion to 8,311 families of deceased officers who died in active service between 2018 and 2024, as part of its welfare support programme.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the most recent disbursement took place on May 23, 2025, with 1,235 families receiving N2.85 billion.
The funds were paid as insurance claims covering the periods 2018–2019, 2021–2022, 2022–2023, and 2023–2024.
The IGP stated that the Force is deeply committed to the welfare of police officers and will continually honor the legacies of the fallen officers, as no compensation can truly replace a lost life.
According to him, “This initiative is significant in clearing long-standing arrears of death benefit claims.
”The Nigeria Police Force is built on the pillars of service, integrity, and sacrifice.”
Egbetokun further stated, “The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to institutionalizing a responsive welfare towards a future where no Next-of-Kin would be left in uncertainty.”
