2025 UTME: UZODINMA URGES POLICE TO ACT SWIFTLY ON SUSPECTED JAMB WEBSITE HACKERS
By: Motunrayo Aniwura
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has called on the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) to step up their investigation into the suspected cyberattack on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) website.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Uzodimma praised security agencies for apprehending the suspects linked to the breach.
The JAMB website suffered technical disruptions during the recent examination, affecting the results of over 370,000 candidates, most of whom were from the Southeast.
On Friday, the police and DSS disclosed the arrest of 20 individuals allegedly involved in compromising the 2025 JAMB computer-based test platform. The suspects were said to have tampered with the system for financial gain, causing widespread confusion and distress among students and parents.
Responding through a statement released by the Imo State Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Declan Emelumba, Uzodimma—who also chairs the South East Governors’ Forum—described the arrests as timely.
He emphasized that identifying the root cause of the breach was essential to easing national anxiety over the incident. He urged the agencies to move swiftly to expose the masterminds and prosecute them promptly, noting that such action would discourage future criminal attempts.
Uzodimma described the incident as a national disgrace requiring urgent attention. He also commended JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, for his integrity and dedication to maintaining the credibility of the examination body.
